Vail Retailer Opens Six New Stores
Specialty Sports Ventures (SSV), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Vail Resorts, Inc. plans to open six new stores this holiday season in Colorado and California.
The first of the season’s rollout was Nov. 16, when a new Smartwool store opened in Beaver Creek Village. Smartwool is a clothing company based in Steamboat Springs that uses merino wool as its cornerstone product for inner and outerwear.
Two new specialty stores and a Tune Shop opened last week in the newly renovated Westin on the Snowmass Mall in Aspen. Patagonia and Northface have branded stores in the Westin. The Tune shop offers precision ski and board tuning and same day service. SSV will also handle all ski valet services for the Westin and Wildwood Hotels. They join Aspen Sports in the Mall that was renovated last winter.
New Zealand-based Icebreaker will debut a store at the Solaris Residence in Vail Dec. 14. Icebreaker also features merino wool. A new Oakley store will open in Vail’s newest residence club in One Willow Bridge.
Turning to California, SSV has just opened a large Breeze Rentals store in Tahoe City on the north shore of Lake Tahoe.
“We are pretty convinced that these six new stores are going to be immediate hits as soon as they open,” said Kat Jobanputra, COO of the Vail-based retail operation. The new store bring the total number of SSV stores to 176 with 755,000 square feet of retail space in Colorado, California, Utah, and Nevada.
