Utah's Skier Days Up By 5.4 Percent

Alta Powder Day 5/29/13

A total of 4,031,621 skiers and snowboarders enjoyed Utah’s slopes during the 2012-13 season, which ended Memorial Day Weekend. It’s the sixth time in eight years the state’s skier numbers passed the four million mark.

The early season hype from storms tracks met the pent-up demand after the lack-luster season the year before, which was 9.4 percent off the mark of the previous year.

“Utah ski and snowboard resorts did an outstanding job of getting the word out on the early snow,” said Ski Utah President Nathan Rafferty. “Even when the storms slowed, new and upgraded snowmaking systems ensured that all of the resorts had exceptional snow all winter.”

Utah’s best season in the past decade came in 2007-08 when 4,249,190 skiers and snowboarders visited the Beehive State. This year ranked sixth on the decade list.
