Steamboat’s Chris Diamond Receives NSAA Lifetime Achievement Award

Chris Diamond, president and COO of Colorado’s Steamboat Resort has been presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award of the National Ski Areas Association (NSAA) at its annual convention in Palm Springs, Calif. last week.


Diamond is credited with playing a lead role in establishing the Yampa County Airport Commission, which oversaw a $30 million expansion and renovation of the regional airport. He also oversaw an Urban Renewal Authority for the resort base area totaling more than $20 million.


Diamond, from Easthampton, Mass., received a Bachelor’s degree from Middlebury College in Vermont and a Master’s from the University of Massachusetts. He began his career at Killington and, after his military discharge, returned to the Killington as assistant to resort president Preston Leete Smith.


He was appointed general manager of nearby Mount Snow Resort in 1977, following its acquisition by Killington. He became a member of NSAA’s Public Lands Committee, a member of the group’s board of directors and was chair from 1993-1994.


Diamond returned to Killington as S-K-I Ltd.’s vice president of business development and was closely involved with the acquisitions of Maine’s Sugarloaf and New Hampshire’s Waterville Valley.


S-K-I was acquired by the American Skiing Company in 1996, and Diamond returning to Mount Snow as general manager for three years. He was named president and COO of Steamboat in 1999, a position he holds today.

Diamond and his wife, Eileen, have two adult children, Keenan and Elizabeth.
