EPA Green Power

Powdr Corp., based in Park City, Utah has received a 2013 Green Power Leadership Award from the U.S. Environmental Agency. Powdr purchases renewable energy certificates from Renewable Choice Energy.

“EPA is pleased to recognize Powdr with a Green Power Purchasing award (category) for its exceptional commitment to buying green power and reducing carbon pollution associated with its electricity use,” said EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy. “In doing so, Powdr has demonstrated leadership in innovation, sustainability, and taking action on climate change.” The only other ski industry recipient in the purchasing category was clothing manufacturer The North Face.

The EPA says Powdr’s purchase of 80 million kWh is equivalent to avoiding the carbon dioxide emissions of nearly 12,000 passenger vehicles per year, or the amount of electricity needed to power more than 8,000 average American homes annually.

Brent Giles, Powdr’s chief sustainability officer, said the development and support of renewable energy is “extremely important for us to preserve and enhance the mountain lifestyle for generations to come.”
