BC Family Day Sun Peaks

British Columbia Premier Christy Clark dubbed the second Monday in February as Family Day holiday in the Province and ski resorts jumped on board.

Canada West Ski Area Association CEO David Lynn says the promotion “created significant opportunities to ski on Family Day for 50 percent off regular ticket prices.” He noted the promotion avoided an overlap with similar holidays in other jurisdictions, on which BC resorts are typically operating at capacity. “We were ecstatic with the results of Family Day,” said Michael Ballingall of Big White. “So many first-time visitors and news skiers and snowboarders. Our ski school was up 62 percent.”

Mike Moran of Crystal Mountain a smaller area, said he had modest expectations, but ended up “absolutely thrilled when we received record results on Feb. 11.”

“What an incredible day!” said Matt Mosteller of Resorts of the Canadian Rockies. “We saw up to and over 50 percent increase in skier visits on this day at FernieKicking Horse and Kimberley.”

There were many more expressions of success, but perhaps Darcy Alexander summed it up for all of them: “The Province’s mew BC Family Day holiday set new records for Sun Peaks Resort. We experienced the third busiest day of the winter, and the busiest February day on record.”
