Otsego Club & Resort, one of the nation’s oldest private ski clubs, will only open next winter if a buyer or operator is in place.
Change is in the wind at Wintergreen Resort where Jim Justice and his family-owned firm, James C. Justice Cos., Inc., is expected to close by June 30 on an acquisition of the financially troubled Virginia resort.
UPDATE JUNE 12: Lots of progress yesterday and last night as weather (high winds) cooperated. The fire went from 0 to 30 percent contained, but firefighters warned it is still a very active dangerous fire. A direct line now surrounds Ski Apache.
What began as a small wildfire in rugged terrain just north of Ski Apache in southern New Mexico, mushroomed over the weekend into a wind-propelled blaze that threatened not only the ski area, but the popular resort community of Ruidoso.
The story all winter out of Colorado’s Echo Mountain was about record-breaking revenues and plenty of snowfall. Now, the ski area is up for auction Aug. 2. Go figure.

Construction is well underway on a new Aerial Adventure Park at southern Vermont’s venerable Bromley Mountain in Peru. Plans are for an early July opening.
Peak Resorts, which owns and operates six Midwest ski areas in Missouri, Indiana and Ohio, is spending several million dollars this summer expanding and remodeling two of the sites. New jobs will be created with the expansion.
