Mikaela Shiffrin US Alpine Champs

The success of this spring’s Nature Valley U.S. Alpine Championships at Squaw Valley resort in California that brought thousands of spectators to the slopes has led to a return engagement March 19-23, 2014.

The event – scheduled just a few weeks after the Winter Olympics conclude in Russia, is expected to feature American stars Julia Mancuso (Squaw Valley, Calif.); Ted Ligety (Park City, Utah); Lindsey Vonn (Vail, Colo.); Bode Miller (Franconia, N.H.) and Mikaela Shiffrin (Eagle-Vail, Colo.).

Ski team officials say the event will serve as a celebration of the 2014 U.S. Olympic Team and will involve competitors from the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association club programs from across the country.

“It’s great to get to race at my home mountain and it’s awesome to have Squaw’s support for ski racing. They did an exceptional job this season, so I definitely look forward to some more great races on home snow after the Olympics,” Mancuso said.

USSA President and CEO Bill Marolt noted the Squaw Valley legacy of producing Olympic stars such as Mancuso, Tamara McKinney, and Jimmie Heuga. “That legacy helped bring out some of the biggest crowds in the history of the Nature Valley U.S. Alpine Championships last spring.”

The U.S. Championships, to be held on the site of the 1960 Winter Olympics, are the culmination of the ski racing year.
