Her smooth style during her final run secured her the gold with a score of 95.25, putting her on top of the podium.
Bode Miller (Franconia, NH) skied a fast and tight line but plowed through a panel and lost time, finishing eighth in the men’s downhill. Travis Ganong (Squaw Valley, CA) was fifth in his first Olympic appearance.

SOCHI, Russia (Feb. 7) - The U.S. Ski Team's Todd Lodwick (Steamboat Springs, CO) received the ultimate honor from his fellow Olympians, being named flag bearer for Team USA. The Olympic silver medalist and World Champion in nordic combined led the American team into the stadium Friday at his record sixth Winter Olympics. No other American has competed in six Winter Games, the most for any athlete worldwide.
Meanwhile, women's freestyle moguls kicked off yesterday with the first round of Olympic qualifications. Defending Olympic champion Hannah Kearney (Norwich, VT) took the top spot and Eliza Outtrim (Hamden, CT) finished fourth, automatically advancing them to the semifinal round of 20. Kearney is gunning for her second gold medal and would be the only freestyle skier to ever win back-to-back gold.

Sochi, Russia: Olympic champion Shaun White (Carlsbad, CA) announced late Wednesday Sochi time that he was withdrawing from slopestyle to keep his focus on winning an unprecedented third straight gold for Team USA in halfpipe.
Slopestyle snowboarding will make its Olympic debut with qualification runs Thursday and the men's finals opening the Games on Saturday.
White will now concentrate on winning a third straight gold medal in the halfpipe snowboarding competition set for Tuesday at the Rosa Khutor Extreme Park.
