Winter weather has no sign of letting up across the Western U.S. and Canada, neither for the Great Lakes region!

Western U.S. & Canada

Two powerful storms will affect much of the West this week. The first will be ongoing Thursday from Alberta southward to Utah. A steady stream of snow will fall through Friday across much of the Rockies, ending Saturday with a general 8-12” accumulation but isolated amounts up to 36”.

Saturday and Sunday will be sunnier, cooler and comfortable. The second powerful storm will hit California Sunday, and then move across Arizona and the Four Corners Monday-Tuesday. Above 7,000 feet elevation expect another 12-24” of snow. Meanwhile, British Columbia gets heavy snow and wind Monday, pushing through Montana/Wyoming Tuesday. This week we love Castle Mountain, Big White Ski Resort, Kicking Horse, Dodge Ridge, Brighton and Cooper.

Midwest, Eastern U.S. & Canada

The storm out West (Friday) will sweep across the Midwest Saturday into early Sunday with whiteout conditions. It’ll bring a narrow swath of 6-12” of snow, but a broader swath of 2-5”.

Snowfall by Monday morning, March 11.

Meanwhile, the immediate East will have two chances at new snow. One will be in the mid-Atlantic Friday with 2-3” of light snow. Then Sunday, the aforementioned Midwest storm will bring snow of 3-6” before changing over to a wintry mixed precipitation. Best locations for snow Sunday will be Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine and Quebec. This week we love Wild Mountain, Buck Hill, Little Switzerland, Pico and Cranmore.

Until next week! Thanks to Northern Vermont University – Lyndon meteorology students James Mundy and Francis Tarasiewicz for contributions to this article.
