Snowy and still cold through April 20-21? Absolutely! This colder-than-average weather pattern for much of the East will stay through the weekend (21-22) with a gradual warm-up for the final week of April (24-27). That said, with cold air in place we’ll have a better chance at keeping and getting more snow.

We’re watching one main storm system in the Midwest Wednesday, moving into the Northeast as a wintry mix Thursday. By Friday, snow showers continue for the Northeast mountains and then it clears with more sun for the weekend. The Midwest can expect up to 4-8” of new snow while the Northeast can expect 2-5” of snow. That’s why this week we like Minnesota’s Wild Mountain, New York’s Whiteface, and Quebec’s Mont St Marie.

Western U.S. & Canada

Two waves of rain/snow will move through this week, one Thursday and another Friday. The first will affect Oregon to California Thursday, then into Utah and Colorado Friday. This will bring pockets of heavy snow and wind (above 8,000 feet elevation) with 4-8” snow for most, isolated amounts up to 5-10.”

The second storm will affect areas to the north Friday-Saturday, specifically British Columbia and Alberta. There, a general 6-12” snow forecast fits best for most resorts. This week we like Alberta’s Lake Louise, California’s Bear Valley, and Utah’s Snowbird.
