SnoCountry SnoCast: March Begins Like A Cold Lion

Lake-Louise-Headline-Pic Sunny, but cold! Early March could feel as cold as January. (Twitter/SkiLouise)

The first week of March will feel more like *January* for many! With the colder air, could we see better snow chances? Scroll down for the details!

Eastern U.S. & Canada

We’ll wake up to snow showers Thursday morning across New York and New England, ending quickly but giving you nice, fresh powder with comfortable temperatures. The Great Lakes region looks to get snow Friday, pushing through the Northeast Saturday with another 2-4”.

A bigger storm appears more likely Sunday with the best chances of snow in northern New York/New England. Depending on the track of the storm, it could be a 6”+ event. Then the *cold* arrives for the first full week of March. Monday-Wednesday will feature subzero wind chills, opportunities for making snow and scattered flurries falling. This week we love Big Snow, Brighton, Stowe, and Shawnee Peak.

Western U.S. & Canada

After an *incredible* February, the first couple of days in March will begin snowy in California’s Sierra Nevada. Nearby, Oregon’s Cascades as well as the U.S. Rockies will get heavy snow showers Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Most locations will pick up an additional 6-12” from the 28th to 2nd but up to 24” in Wyoming/Montana/California.

It will be a chilly skiing weekend, especially across the Rockies. Mainly lighter snow showers will fall Sunday, Monday and Tuesday while staying cool. Another West coast storm arrives Wednesday the 6th. The pattern stays fairly active with a storm every 3-4 days! This week we love Jackson Hole, Whitefish Resort, Wolf Creek and Homewood Mountain.

Until next week! Thanks to Northern Vermont University – Lyndon meteorology students James Mundy and Francis Tarasiewicz for contributions to this article.
