Women Take Center Stage Across Heartland Ski Country

Over the next few weeks eight Midwest ski areas are hosting women’s ski and snowboard clinics. Two ski areas are located in Michigan, two in Indiana, and one each in Ohio, Minnesota, Missouri and Wisconsin.

Indiana’s Perfect North is up first hosting women’s beginner ski and snowboard clinics Friday, Jan. 20, and Sunday, Jan. 22. Starting with the basics the two-hour clinics are taught by female instructors in small, supportive classes. Following in February they are hosting women’s intermediate to advanced clinics, Saturday, Feb. 3 and Sunday, Feb. 5. The cost is $45 for each clinic.

The other Hoosier ski area Paoli Peaks is hosting an all day ski and snowboard clinic on Saturday, Feb. 4 for women 18 and older. The cost is $75, which includes a lift ticket. Rentals, if you don’t have equipment, are $30. 

Hidden Valley

Hidden Valley, Missouri, is hosting Women’s Wednesdays Jan. 18 and 25 and Feb. 1 from 2-7 p.m. Advanced registration is required for the classes, and the cost is $25 per session.  

Ohio’s Mad River Mountain host’s Snow Angles every Sunday through Feb. 26 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Taught by female instructors the sessions are for all ski and ride ability levels. It’s $20 per session.

Wilmot Mountain on the Illinois - Wisconsin border just above Chicago, offers a Women’s Program every Thursday, 10 a.m.-noon. Taught by women it’s for both those who want to learn and those wanting to improve skills. The cost is $85 for lesson and lift ticket.

Michigan’s Boyne Highlands is hosting a women’s ski clinic with former U.S. Ski Team member Lisa Densmore Feb. 10-12, for intermediate and advanced skiers. Included are trends in women’s ski gear, demo ski tryouts, skiing instruction followed by individual video analysis, breakfast, lunch, a Saturday night dinner with Densmore and a farewell après-ski party Sunday afternoon. The cost is $289 and lift tickets are not included. Lodging is available at $185 per person, per night, including breakfast. 

Ski Girls Rock

Mt. Brighton, near Detroit, is hosting Ski Girls Rock, a Lindsey Vonn designed program for Vail Resorts, March 4-5. The program is for girls ages seven through teens, intermediate skiers and up. The program runs from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., and the cost is $160 for non-pass holders and $120 for pass holders.

Afton Alps, the Twin Cities, is also hosting Ski Girls Rock, March 11-12. The cost of the two day camp is $187 and does not include lift tickets.
