Winter Storm Titan Deposits Late Season Snow In Mid-Atlantic

Blue Knob

Winter Storm Titan has dropped ample amounts of new snow in the mid-Atlantic region at a time of the season when prices start rolling back.

After a solid Presidents Week highlighted by excellent conditions, Blue Knob All Seasons Resort, 125 miles east of Pittsburgh, Pa. received a foot of snow prior to the four to six inches of freshies with the arrival of Titan. This week’s weather will deepen the NASTAR course for Sunday’s (March 9) multiple sclerosis fundraiser for the late William Taafe.

“It’s been an all around great season for us, with stellar conditions,” ski lodge manager Paul Gordon told SnoCountry.com. “We could get a warm up over the next two weeks and still be in good shape.

“Right now we’re trying to get into people’s heads that we have snow even if they don’t.” But that was before Titan since the storm dropped ample snow across the state and down to the nation’s capital and Richmond, Va.

Gordon saidt Blue Knob, with a summit elevation of 3,146 feet and a nearly 1,100 foot vertical drop, will remain open until April 1. “If skiers and boarders check us out and don’t give up on the season, they’ll find the longest trails in the mid-Atlantic, no lift lines and great lodging rates.”

Wisp Resort in western Maryland (301-387-4000) was another site in the storm’s path, collecting six inches for a season total of 123 inches.

Hence, there’s no time like the present to take advantage of Wisp’s mid-week (Sunday through Thursday) and weekend packages (Friday and Saturday), priced at $79 and $89 per person, per night, respectively, including a daily lift ticket. The weekend package runs March 14 through closing date.

Liberty Mountain, located between Gettysburg, Pa. and the Maryland border, collected a light topping of new snow and boasts all trails and lifts in operation. The resort (717-642-8282 x 3300) offers a $289.29 package for two, available Sunday through Thursday, tax included. Their best deal includes a hot breakfast and lift tickets for both occupants, but there are other options to consider.

The same can be said throughout eastern snow country as snowfall and snowmaking temperatures are ready to push the season well into spring.
