In a contest at Wachusett Feb. 11- 25, anyone who purchased a three-day Learn to Ski package was entered into a drawing for a two-night ski vacation at Jay Peak for a family of four in a two-bedroom condo (including lodging and lift tickets). Robert Morse, 46, from Nahant, Massachusetts, was the lucky winner from more than 220 entries.
The goal of the promotion was to encourage first-timers to stick with the sport by providing them with an opportunity to take a ski vacation. Wachusett and Jay Peak have worked closely together for many years providing reciprocal season pass benefits but this was the first time the two mountains had joined forces to promote new skiers.
“We take our role as a feeder ski area very seriously,” said Wachusett Vice President Carolyn Stimpson. “This partnership with Jay Peak is a perfect way to reward a new skier with an opportunity to continue and hopefully keep them coming back again and again.”
“This first go at partnering on a more targeted learn-to promotion was a great success,” said Steve Wright, Jay Peak GM. “We look forward to welcoming Mr. Morse and his family here at Jay Peak and working more closely with the team at Wachusett Mountain to encourage even more folks to get out skiing and riding at both of our resorts.”
“I did not grow up in a skiing family,” said Mr. Morse. “So I never had a chance to learn. My wife learned when she was young and my daughter (15) learned a few years ago. This year my son (10) wanted to try it. He took a few lessons in January and figured it out. So I figured it was about time for me to learn. I looked at a lot of places, and Wachusett had by far the best deal. I’ve taken two out the three lessons and I feel like I’ve got the hang of it.”
Wachusett, winners or the 2016 National Ski Areas Association Conversion Cup for having the best program in the U.S. to convert new skiers into life-long enthusiasts, offers one-day and three-day Learn to Ski or Snowboard programs.
