Vermont's Okemo Mountain Opens Early; Credits ‘Operation Snowburst’

Okemo snowmakingThanks to cold temperatures and a huge investment in snowmaking upgrades, Okemo Mountain Resort in Vermont opened three days earlier than scheduled for the 2013-14 season.

Orginally scheduled to open Saturday, Okemo opened for top-to-bottom skiing and snowboarding on Wednesday, Nov. 13.

Okemo’s Bonnie MacPherson says “a little cooperation from Mother Nature and some great success with Operation Snowburst, a $1 million investment in snowmaking, is allowing the resort to open with top-to-bottom skiing and riding."

Three lifts are currently serving five trails, including Countdown, Upper World Cup, Fairway and Link.

Tickets are $49 form adults; $43 for young adults (13-18) and seniors (65-69); and $33 for juniors (7-12) and super seniors (70+). Pricing will be evaluated and adjusted daily based on terrain availability.
