New chairlifts, lodging renovations, “re-imagined” food service and a “one-of-a-kind” snowmaking upgrade highlights an announcement from Vail Resorts President and CEO Rob Katz that the company is spending $85 million for 2014-15.
“We’re very strategic about the projects we undertake,” Katz said in a news announcement, “and their overall impact on the guest experience at each of our 10 resorts. Each one of these projects is a game changer for the guests of that particular resort.”
Here are the highlights:
A new combination gondola/six-passenger express lift replaces the Centennial Express and is Beaver Creek Resort’s primary portal. There is one gondola cabin for every five chairs for guest-friendly loading. The new lift means a 35 percent increase in uphill capacity.
A new snowmaking system that automatically refreshes snowmaking surfaces throughout the season will be added along Gold Dust and Lower Larkspur trails.
The Colorado Super Chair at Breckenridge will be upgraded from a quad express to a six passenger express means a 30 percent increase in capacity for Peak 8’s primary and most used lift. Further, the Peak 9 restaurant will receive a complete interior renovation. The scenic spot is located at 11,274 feet.
The iconic Lodge at Vail, a Rock Resort at the base of the mountain, will undergo significant renovations to 50 hotel rooms and the lobby. The hotel will remain open during the renovation period from August to December.
Utah’s Canyons Resort will see the replacement of the temporary Cloud Dine structure with a permanent 316-seat restaurant. The restaurant serves Dream Peak and Iron Mountain lift pods. A pump station upgrade by 25 percent will enable top-to-bottom skiing early season.
