United Express Adds Daily San Francisco-Sun Valley Flights; Starts Dec. 12

Sun Valley

The slopes of Sun Valley Resort in Idaho will be easier to reach this winter, as United Airlines will begin daily service from San Francisco on Dec. 12.

The non-stop flights on United Express will carry up to 66 passengers from the City by the Bay into Friedman Memorial Airport, which is 14 miles from the iconic ski resort.

The winter schedule runs Dec. 12 to March 30, with daily flights leaving San Francisco International Airport at 10:40 a.m. Pacific Time and arriving in Sun Valley at 1:40 p.m. Rocky Mountain Time -- maybe in time to get a couple of runs in before the lifts close.

The return flight takes off from Sun Valley at 1:57 p.m. and touches down in San Francisco at 2:54 p.m., local time.

"With these new non-stop flights, travelers can fly between San Francisco and Sun Valley in just under two hours in the comfort of a regional jet,” said Eric Seder, board president of Fly Sun Valley Alliance, which works to increase air service into the Sun Valley area.

By showing their boarding pass, travelers get a free ski or snowboard demo package, or a two-hour group lesson on the morning after arrival.

United Airlines also plans to run daily flights on the same route for the summer of 2014, from July 2 to Sept. 23

The new service joins daily service from Seattle and Los Angeles on Alaska Airlines, and from Salt Lake City via SkyWest (United Express/Delta Connection).
