Two Central Wisconsin Ski Areas Offer Family Weekend Getaways; Lift, Lodging Deals
Chicago and Milwaukee families looking for places to enjoy a weekend winter getaway should check out Granite Peak and Cascade Mountain, both easily accessed by major interstate highways for an easy drive. Both are very family friendly.
Granite Peak, located just off I-39 overlooking Wausau, is hosting Family Festival Weekends Feb. 6-8, and March 6-8. Lodging packages for a family of four start from $545 for the weekend and include lift tickets, ski or snowboard rental, horse drawn wagon rides, night skiing Saturday night plus a big bonfire to sit around and watch the firework display over 700-foot Rib Mountain.
There’s plenty of terrain variety for all family members including terrain parks for beginners to advanced snowboarders. The area boasts six chairlifts including three high-speed. There’s dedicated beginner areas with their own lifts. It’s big time skiing and riding for Heartlanders.
Located within minutes of Wisconsin Dells, which has been dubbed the warter park capital of the Midwest, Cascade offers lift and lodging packages with many of the Dell’s indoor waterpark resorts. The 460-foot ski hill, close to I-94/90, offers a wide variety of trails, 10 lifts, three terrain parks and tubing. Beginning skiers and riders have their own dedicated area with a carpet lift, chairlift and starter park. Kids 12 and under always ski and ride free when accompanied by paying adults. Staying in the nearby Dells, families can ski all day and slide on the waterslides at night. The kids will love it. It’s a great combination.
