Trail Improvements, New Gondola Cabins, More At Whistler Blackcomb
Whistler Blackcomb has made a $12 million investment in guest experience improvements for this winter. Here are some highlights. Opening Day is Nov. 27, depending on weather.
The Crystal Zone on Blackcomb Mountain has undergone additional land contouring in high traffic areas. The narrower sections of the Crystal Glade trail have been widened; more trail work was done on Rock n’ Roll, Backstage Pass, and Ridgerunner.
Eight new passenger gondola cabins have been added to the Whistler Village gondola. The $6 million upgrade replaces cabins in existence since 1988. The “Diamond” level walk-in cabins now provide bench seating for all eight passengers.
The ski school has added Terrain Based Learning. It is designed to increase ski and snowboard participation with first-timers by building small terrain features so beginners can get the feeling of skiing or boarding in a safe environment.
Kids can stay dry and comfortable under the newly covered Magic Carpet Lift at the Children’s Learning Centre on Whistler Mountain, while learning to ski or snowboard. It replaces the old handle tows.
Private ski or snowboard lessons will be available to adults, kids and families. The minimum age for private ski lessons has been lowered to 2.5 years.
Childcare during the holiday weeks of Christmas/New Year’s, Chinese New Year, President’s Week and Easter will be easier to book with the Kids Night Out program. The fun, non-ski based evening programs will be held at the base of Blackcomb Mountain in the Upper Village.
