Track Ski Days, Collect Virtual Pins With New Ski Nation Mobile App

Ski Nation AppSki Nation is a new mobile application for all types of skiers and riders to track their days on snow and share their experiences with snow-loving friends. The Ski Nation app features updated snow conditions, trail reports, trail maps, photos, and resort information for more than 1,001 ski areas in North America, a list that’s expected to grow as more “off-the-radar” areas are found.

All ski venues are pre-loaded, including downhill alpine areas, cross-country, and even ski jumps. The list includes major resorts, regional areas, local ski hills, and community facilities.

Like the pins many of us used to collect at every ski area we visited, you can collect a virtual ski pin for every place you’ve ever been. This season, collect a pin by GPS every time you’re on snow. Ski Nation will keep track of all skier days each year, number of seasons (including past years), and every ski area regardless of where you go or how you ski or ride.

“Ski Nation is like a passport with stamps for every country ever visited, but for snow days. It’s a memory of all the places you’ve been, and you can look back to see all the ski areas you’ve visited and your history on snow,” Jack Turner, Ski Nation founder and former US Ski Team member, told SnoCountry.com. Turner is also the founder of the Snow Monsters program.

In the future, Turner hopes to have multiple pins available for an area: different pins for different years, for attending a special event, or skiing a unique area on the mountain.

Users can also use the app’s social media sharing tools to let friends know where you’re skiing or riding for the day.

Turner added that one of his goals in building the app was to create an inclusive format for all types and sizes of ski areas, regardless of their financial resources, and the many forms of snow sliders to connect.

“With this app, even the little places are finally on the map. It’s been a fun journey discovering so many places to ski, so many small community-owned areas that really are the heart of the sport,” Turner told us. “The day that the industry forgets all the little places is the day that skiing becomes a commodity rather than a way of life.”

Turner added that Ski Nation’s celebrity endorsement comes from a skier who enjoys every aspect of sliding on snow. Billy Demong is “the greatest skier that is unknown – almost nobody recognizes him, but like our users, he is an alpine skier, telemarker, jumper, and terrain park fan. Billy represents the entire fabric of skiing, the generosity and spirit of riding snow.”

“The ski industry has so many elements that are boxes to separate people: we often divide into whether we like groomers or powder, freeriders or tree skiers, alpine or cross country. In the Ski Nation it doesn’t matter how experienced you are, where you are from, what you do; it’s for everybody.”
