The Utah Hills Are Alive With Summer Concerts

Canyons-Cover Most Utah resorts host frequent music concerts, like the summer-long series with Utah Symphony Orchestra at The Canyons base area. (Park City Resort/Facebook)

Despite Covid restrictions, the ski and snowboard resorts of Utah had a boffo summer season last year with hiking, biking, scenic lift rides and other social-distanced activities. But one key attraction was missing: Music.

Now that these restrictions are lifting, the mountain resorts in the Beehive State are exploding with music -- from reggae to classical, blues to Broadway, big names to local singer-songwriters.

If summer plans include Utah, pencil in trips to the mountains as some 300 regularly scheduled concerts dot the melodic mountain calendar this summer. There's some form of performance pretty much every day until Labor Day. Here's a look at what's tuning up for Utah resorts.

Down south, the Brian Head hosts a couple of free late summer music festivals. The Classic Rock Festival Aug. 7 lines up oldies but goodie. On Sept. 4, it's the Country Music Festival and, a week later, it's R'OcktoberFest.

Up north, Snowbasin kicks off its six-concert Brews, Blues & BBQ series Aug. 1. National and local bands perform every Sunday through Sept. 5, with buckets of beer and piles of barbecue for nourishment -- and no cover.

In the eastern Wasatch, Deer Valley hosts a couple of top-line music series with online ticket sales. The two-part Concert Series features Indigo Girls and Nathaniel Ratliff. All summer long, the Utah Symphony Orchestra joins legendary pop favorites for Music Festival concerts through Aug. 7.

Next door, Park City music-lovers flock to the Canyons for the free summer Village Concert Series. All genres are represented by national and regional bands on select Thursdays and Saturdays through August.

Over the ridge, Solitude schedules regional bands every Sunday through mid-September in the Summer Concert Series -- free of charge.

Above Provo, Sundance Resort hosts Bluebird Cafe Concert Series with Nashville singer-songwriters on the last two weekends of August. Tickets online. And, every Sunday, there's Sounds of Summer series and every Wednesday the Low Key Vibes free series -- both running through August.

And Snowbird kicks out the jams Thursdays through Sundays at the Cliff Lodge.
