Tahoe’s Powder Pass Nixes Holiday Blackouts; On Sale Through Dec. 20

Tahoe Powder PackMany season pass holders eschew the slopes during the holidays because of blackout dates – a circumstance that Squaw Valley, Alpine Meadows and Sugar Bowl want to change.

The three Lake Tahoe-area resorts have put a Tahoe Powder Pack on sale through Dec. 20, just ahead of the Christmas and New Year’s holidays. The package include six lift tickets at each of the three resorts with absolutely no blackout dates.

The cost is $399, or about $67 a day, well below the ticket window price of $105 or pre-purchase of $95 for adults at Squaw and Alpine Meadows, and the $72 window price at Sugar Bowl. This promotion is only available to skiers and snowboarders 13 years and older.

"It's a great combination of value, convenience and timing in that Northern California skiers and riders will love the value of $67/day and the convenience of using the pass unrestricted at three of North Lake Tahoe's premier big mountain resorts," Sugar Bowl's Jon Monson told SnoCountry.com. "It's launched at a perfect time for those skiers who might not have picked up a season pass by the early-season cutoff dates, but still don't want to pay window rates."

The Powder Pack can be purchased online, over the phone or at the season pass office at each resort. Upon their first visit to one of the mountains, purchasers must register at the season pass office in order to receive a Tahoe Powder Pack card. Thereafter, card holders must show their card and an ID at the daily ticket window to receive a lift ticket for that day.

"We created the Tahoe Powder Pack to fill a void for our intermediate skiers and riders who don’t visit often enough for a season pass, but more often two or three times a season," Squaw Valley's Tegan Firth Kopilenko told SnoCountry.com. "These skiers and riders also expressed an interest in a pass that doesn’t have any blackout dates."

The trio of resorts also offer a limited quantity of four-day, non-blackout ticket packages with the adult price of $279, or $69 a day. Teens and young adults (13-22) pay $249 ($62 a day), as do seniors ages 65-75.
