Snowboard Camps Scheduled At Treetops, Mich. Through Fall

Summer CampsWith the heat wave dripping across the Heartland thoughts of winter, skiing and snowboarding keep running through my head. Take heart Midwestern shredders and check out the new summer snowboard and freestyle ski camps taking place at Treetops Resort in northern Michigan.

A five-day camp is scheduled August 10-14, and three-day camps are scheduled September 27-29, October 18-20, 25-27 and November 1-3 and 8-10. Per person price for the five day camp is $799, which includes four nights of lodging, breakfast, lunch, dinner, and instruction by Olympic coach Tom Hutchinson for both snowboarding and freestyle skiing. Price for the three-day camps is $469 per person, which covers two nights lodging, meals and instruction for three days.

Non-lodging packages are available for participants. For the five-day camp its $650 with meals and $520 without. The three-day camp is $385 with meals and $320 without.

A parent’s package, which includes lodging and breakfast, is $126.50 per person, per night, based on double occupancy. It also includes your choice of a round of golf, on one of Treetop’s 18-hole championship courses, or a spa credit of $60.

The training area includes a small rail-yard and an 8-foot-tall airbag that participants will be jumping into including training on flips, according to Kevin McKinley, ski area manager.

“It’s an actual on-snow experience,” he told SnoCountry.com. “We bring a refrigerated truck in with the snow for the camps, and put it on the runs as needed to keep them fresh. We do land training in the morning, the sweat equity portion, and the snowboard and freestyle ski training in the afternoon.  It’s quality training time with an Olympic coach. It’s something new for us, and we were pleased with the first session held earlier this month. It was a good turnout. Each participant got plenty of individual training time.”

Treetops Golf Course, Mich.An added bonus for camp participants is that one night they get a golf clinic with instructor Jason Guss from the Rick Smith Golf School at Treetops.

Treetops Resort is home to 81 holes of championship golf and Threetops, the par-three course that hosted ESPN's Par Three Shootout for years.  The resort features courses by famed designers Robert Trent Jones Sr., Tom Fazio and Rick Smith.  The Rick Smith Golf Academy is Michigan's only three-time recipient of GOLF Magazine's prestigious Top 25 Golf School award. Nationally recognized instructor Jason Guss, a regular contributor to Golf Digest, is one of those Academy instructors.

Couples golf packages start midweek at $299 midweek and $399 weekends. The package includes lodging, breakfast, dinner and a round of golf for two.
