Summer Ready To Shine With New Hampshire Activities
Summer is about to bloom with boating, skate parks, horseback riding, golf, and much more at New Hampshire's mountain resorts. Here’s a sampling of what’s in store in the Granite State.
Get into the water on those warm summer days at Attitash in Bartlett. Enjoy two water slides and let the kids cool off in Buddy Bear’s Playpool. There’s also a Mountain Coaster, alpine slides, climbing wall, EuroBungy trampoline, guided horseback rides, sky rides, and mountain biking.
Horsing around is in style at Black Mountain in Jackson specializing in horseback and pony rides during the summer months. Kids ages 8-12 can also participate in horseback riding day camps during July.
The Omni Kids Club at the Omni Mountain Washington Hotel & Resort in Bretton Woods is a prime amenity for all hotel guests. Ages are 4-12 and programs are half-day, full-day, and evening programs. Activities include mountain biking, tennis, indoor and outdoor swimming, horseback riding, using Doggler mountain scooters, disc golf, fishing and hiking. There’s a Canopy Tour requiring kids over 12 to meet weight requirements.The Bretton Woods Adventure Center includes free scenic rides.
Over in Franconia Notch, Cannon Mountain is known for scenery and the Franconia Notch Recreation Path. There’s Echo Lake Beach, the Cannon tram so families can easily summit one of New Hampshire's 4,000 foot peaks, and the Rim Trail at the top is an easy ridge hike. Don't miss the New England Ski Museum.
The Soaring Eagle Zip-Line at Cranmore in North Conway sends guests flying 700 feet down the mountain on a suspended zip-line. Segway tours let visitors cruise the streets and mountain slopes. The Mountain Coaster twists and turns its way down the mountain at driver-controlled speeds. There’s also the Cranmore Adventure Park featuring a giant swing, tubing, mini golf, bungy trampoline, Spyder Mountain, an 18-hole disc golf course, and bouncy houses. The Aerial Adventure Course consists of a ropes course, zip-lines, and air bridges. Music fans will enjoy the Cranmore Arts Jubilee concert series each Thursday evening from July 12-Aug. 9.
Pinkham Notch is home to Great Glen Trails Outdoor Center. This is where parents to get some exercise with the kids in tow. Kiddie cart bike trailers, and child-powered bike trailers are available for rent. Kids of all ages can compete in the Trails Tracker Scavenger Hunt. Also available are mountain bike trails and rentals. Try a guided canoe or kayak trips. The area is located at the base of the Mount Washington Auto Road.
Summer fun awaits at Gunstock in Gilford. The Aerial Treetops Adventure Course and Mountain Segway tours are offered. The ZipTour has eight different zip-lines including one that is billed as the longest in the continental United States. There’s a mini-golf course, horseback trail rides, kayaking, paddleboat rentals, a skate park, climbing walls, scenic rides, and hiking and biking trails.
It’s about families at King Pine & Purity Spring Resort in East Madison. Its lakeside facilities include water skiing, swimming, four sandy beaches, canoeing and kayaking, fishing, basketball, tennis and volleyball, archery, a climbing wall, and 1,000 acres of walking, hiking and mountain bike trails. Take tours in the adjacent N.H. Audubon Wildlife Sanctuary.
The Scenic Gondola Skyride to the summit is a big attraction at Loon Mountain in Lincoln. Explore glacial caves, a self-guided nature tour, hunt for Lost Loon Gold, enjoy the mountaintop playground and climb the observation tower. There are indoor and outdoor climbing walls, a bungee trampoline, bike rentals, and horseback rides at the base of the resort. Try flying across the Pemi River and back again on a zip-line.
The 18-hole championship golf course is a big reason to visit Ragged Mountain in Danbury. It's set on the down slopes of the ski and ride mountain. Midweek rates are $39 for 18 holes.
Mount Sunapee in Newbury, NH has a brand new Adventure Park to offer this summer. Take the Canopy Zip-Line Tour with zips, rope bridges and rappelling as you descend. Guided 90-minute off-road Segway excursions wind through the base area and lower slopes. There are numerous hiking trails and summer events.
Waterville Valley offers a "Summer Unlimited" package which includes activities such as swimming, tennis, golf, canoeing, kayaking scenic chairlift, mountain biking (rentals available), and pedal boating. The skate/BMX park is home to a skate camp. There are also other camps available for kids ages 4-16 with full and half-day options. Waterville home to the Curious George Cottage, which serves as headquarters for story hours, nature walks and astronomy nights.
Riding to the top of Wildcat Mountain on its four-passenger gondola is an adventure. Once there, explore the summit, play a round of disc golf and enjoy the views of Mount Washington. Guided nature tours at the summit or base area in Pinkham Notch are scheduled throughout the summer. The ZipRider is a half-mile zip-line cable reaches speeds of over 45 miles per hour.
