Stowe’s The Spot For Family Adventure
Stowe's true alpine village at Spruce Peak. (Martha Wilson)
Soaring spaces and massive wooden beams set the scene at the Stowe’s state-of-the-art Adventure Center, just opened for its first winter in 2017. For family fun and adventure, Spruce Peak Village has everything a family needs for a Vermont winter getaway.
Located at Spruce Peak and adjacent to Stowe’s new outdoor Ice Skating Rink, Stowe’s Adventure Center is home to all Stowe’s children’s programs. From beautiful daycare facilities to kids' ski and ride programs, the new Adventure Center has significantly advanced and expanded family amenities and services at the resort. The building also includes new shops, Stowe Rocks - an indoor climbing center - and family-friendly dining.
The Adventure Center is just steps away from the beginner lifts, making it a great home for the children’s ski and ride school. Programs start for kids as young as 3 and the Stoweked Teen Camp is a full-day group lesson program for 13 to 16 year olds who are ready to rip it up.
After a day on the slopes, the fun doesn’t end. Gear up for indoor rock climbing at Stowe Rocks. The KidZone, for the 12 and under set, has a twelve-foot high wall featuring fun climbing holds such as airplanes, trains, letters, numbers, boats and trucks. Color-coded routes with sloped, vertical, and overhanging features are fun for any age.
In the heart of the Spruce Peak village you’ll find the skating rink, a free and fun way to take in the Vermont views. Warm up with complimentary s’mores and hot cocoa Saturdays and Sundays at the rink-side fireplace.
Choosing which of the numerous dining options to fuel up at may be a hard choice. Canteen has kid-friendly choices and adult favorites, like the Lord of Pork, with pulled BBQ pork on a toasted challah bun. Skinny Pancake takes crepes to the next level with sweet and savory choices, all filled with local ingredients. Stowe Mountain Lodge’s signature Solstice Restaurant is not to be missed, with ever-changing artisan-inspired cuisine.
Fun activities and events aren’t limited to just holidays and vacation weeks – winter is just too short, so January through March you’ll find special offerings every Thursday through Sunday.
