Squaw, Alpine To Add $8 Million In 2013-14 Improvements

Significant snowmaking improvements at both Lake Tahoe sister resorts Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows and much more have been announced.

 

New improvements total an investment of $8 million. The projects come on top of the $38 million the last two seasons and are part of a total package of $70 million to be invested over a five-year period.

 

More than $2 million will be spent on the resorts’ snowmaking systems and grooming fleets. Five new snowcats and a winch cats will be purchased. New features will also be added to the terrain parks.

 

Squaw’s base area will see a new Wanderlust yoga studio in the Village at Squaw Valley where classes will be held both in the studio and on the mountain. Spruce, a new home furnishing store will open in the east end of the village.

 

The concert venue at the base of KT-22 will see a new sculpted amphitheater at the KT-22 Base Bar, which will make for optimal concert viewing. 

 

Renovations are being made to the rental shop designed to improve flow. A Wedding Garden will be added to Olympic Village Lodge and there will be plenty of new “wayfinding” signage as well.

 

The condominium suites at The Village of Squaw Valley are receiving a $1.3 million makeover including new mattresses and bedding, furniture, carpet, TVs, and air conditioning. All of the units are privately owned.

 

Finally, investments are being made to reduce the resort infrastructure’s carbon footprint, including automatic temperature regulation at the High Camp Pool.
