Southwest Kicks Open Season: New Mexico’s Sipapu To Open Saturday

SipapuSipapu Resort in Vadito New Mexico will open Saturday, Nov. 16, marking the small northern ski area’s earliest opening in the resort’s more than 60-year history.

Red River Ski Area is expected to open Nov. 27, followed by Taos Ski Valley, Ski Santa Fe and Ski Apache Nov. 28.

A strong storm in October brought wind, rain and high-elevation snow to New Mexico followed by cold temperatures. The state is currently in a cold snap.

The ski area’s newest lift, which will replace one that was built in 1961, is about ready to go, but not by opening day.
