The partnership that owns Purgatory and Arizona Snowbowl has extended its reach into Utah with the purchase of Nordic Valley in the northern Wasatch Mountains.

In a recent announcement, Durango businessman James Coleman and Mountain Capital Partners said they have agreed to operate the town hill formerly known as Wolf Mountain and Wolf Creek Utah both in winter and summer.

“Nordic Valley is a fantastic ski area and is consistent with our goals as a company of making skiing affordable to everyone in order to continue growing the sport,” said Coleman, whose company now owns and/or operates seven ski and snowboard mountains and a powder snow cat operation in the Rockies.

As a result of the transaction, Nordic Valley season-pass holders will get unlimited skiing and riding at three other smaller mountains: Sipapu and Pajarito in New Mexico, and Ski Hesperus outside Durango in Colorado. In the future, pass holders will likely add Elk Ridge, a town hill in Williams, Ariz., that Coleman bought last year.

In addition, Nordic Valley joins the Power Pass portfolio that includes the above-mentioned resorts plus Arizona Snowbowl and Purgatory with unlimited, no-blackout skiing and snowboarding. Another half-dozen resorts – including Nordic Valley neighbor Powder Mountain – can be had for three free days with the Power Pass.

Opened in 1969, the 110-acre ski and snowboard mountain with three lifts is best known for lighting all its 15 slopes and trails for night skiing and riding. A group of investors bought the property out of bankruptcy in 2014 with plans to reinvigorate a four-season resort. That action involved the auction sales of a golf course, residential development, lake and tennis courts at the resort located just outside Eden, Utah.
