Get your shred on, Midwest snowboarders. The seventh annual SO-GNAR Snowboard Camp Tour is hitting seven Heartland ski areas over the next few weeks. Five of the stops are scheduled over the holidays.
Buck Hill, near the Twin Cities is first up Dec. 22-23, followed by Wisconsin’s Granite Peak, Dec. 26-27; Sunburst, Dec. 28; Tyrol Basin, Dec. 29-30; and over to Illinois’ Raging Buffalo, Dec. 31-Jan. 1; Cannonsburg, near Grand Rapids, is the only Michigan ski area scheduled Jan. 3-6; and Ohio’s Mad River Mountain rounds out the Midwest tour Jan. 19-20.
Costs range between $150 for two-day camps up to $325 for the four-day camp at Cannonsburg. Some ski areas are offering an option including lift tickets for a little bit more. Shred Circuit Contest admission is $20 at all locations.
The camps, sponsored by SO-GNAR, bring custom made jib features and pro-rider coaches to each area. You get to ride with the pros, learn new tricks, style and creativity while having fun, and there are always lots of free swag giveaways. It is snowboard camp after all, what’s not to like?
This season the camp is being held in conjunction with “Shred Circuit Traveling Contest Series.” At every stop on the tour there will be a Shred Circuit allowing campers to test their newly learned skills in a competition. The first place rider at each stop is awarded an all expense paid trip to Winter Park , Colo., to compete with winning riders from other tour stops on April 7. The trip includes airfare, lodging and lift tickets.
In related news, the Tyrol Basin airbag has arrived and will be available every weekend from 9 a.m - 5p.m. and Tuesday and Friday evenings from 4 - 9 p.m. It will be available daily during the holidays. Cost is $5 for one jump, $25 for a day pass, and $150 for a season pass.
