SnoCountry SnoCast: Winter Weather Holding Strong
In this week’s SnoCast, every corner of the country will get snow. In this continued active weather pattern, see what days will be best to hit the slopes in your area.
Eastern U.S. & Canada
With one storm finishing up in the East on Thursday (Feb. 20), with snow for northern Maine, temperatures will stay seasonably cool across the Northeast for the end of the week.
The next storm to watch comes in for the weekend. Some will benefit from snow, while others may have to deal with a mixed bag.
Ski areas in the Midwest will see mainly snow from northern Wisconsin to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan- keep a close eye on conditions at Granite Peak and Whitecap Mountains with several inches of snow coming in Saturday night-Sunday (Feb. 23-24).
That same storm may also bring a brief burst of snow to New England ski areas early Sunday before warmer air wins out. Farther north, Quebec ski resorts will stay cold enough, longer to get mostly snow for Sunday- head north to Bigrock Mountain (Maine), Stoneham or Mont Sainte-Anne in Quebec for a snowy getaway.
Western U.S. & Canada
A busy forecast for the western U.S. with unseasonably cold temps, and a few storm systems to watch. A strong system digs out of the Four Corners region of the U.S. Thursday and Friday (Feb. 21- 22). This will blanket northern Arizona peaks in nearly 2 feet of snow, including near Arizona Snowbowl. Many Arizona and New Mexico ski areas will get at least 4-8” out of the storm, including near Red River and Taos in Mew Mexico. For Colorado, look to the southern state for most snow, including Telluride and Wolf Creek. In Utah, too, several inches (5”+) of fresh snow will hit the peaks through Thursday, even as far north as Deer Valley and Park City .
The Northwest will see the next shot of snow as a storm system rolls in Friday, hitting British Columbia’s peaks, as well as the Washington Cascades (looking at you, Whistler, Mt. Baker and Crystal Mountain). Snow overspreads the Oregon Cascades to the northern Sierras in California with 6”+ at the peaks through the weekend, and a few fresh inches even as far east as northwest Wyoming around Jackson Hole.
It doesn’t look like Punxsatawney Phil’s forecast is verifying anytime soon. Winter is here to stay.
