SnoCountry SnoCast: Welcome To The 2019-20 Season!

Another season of SnoCast is back right here on SnoCountry.com. We’re glad to bring you a powder-tastic year of forecasts so you can find the best skiing and riding this 2019-2020 winter season.

If you’re new to SnoCast, welcome! Every week, you’ll find our weather forecasts for areas with big snow, or just great conditions to get out and hit the slopes. This week, we'll preview the excitement for the fall days upon us as we get ready for the season ahead.

Sure it’s fall, but that doesn’t mean nature wants to wait for winter to snow. The Northwest U.S. got pounded with new snow this past week, dropping nearly 3 feet of snow on the northern Rockies, especially in Montana and Idaho. Schweitzer captured the first flakes on social media. Stevens Pass also showed off their winter wonderland after snow covered the ground there. This early season storm was enough to fuel excitement for the season ahead.

Cold nights so far have allowed some hours of early-season snowmaking. Arapahoe Basin was already at it in mid-September to lay a base. This coming weekend, much colder-than-normal conditions will persist across the northern Rockies with nighttime temps falling into the 20s for many.  The Northeast peaks will also be falling into the 20s and 30s by night, helping bring out some more of those crisp fall colors.

While it’s much too early to actually open for most ski areas, that hasn’t stopped some from announcing opening dates. Look to Killington Mountain in Vermont to race for one of the earliest openings this year. Until then, get out and enjoy those amazing fall colors emerging at so many mountains for an unforgettable fall.

Next week, we'll look into the long-range season outlook for the winter and what kind of weather pattern we can all expect.
