SnoCountry.com's Best Midwest Ski Resorts For Summer Golf
The Midwest is known as America’s Summer Golf Capitol for good reason. The upper Midwest offers plenty of sunshine, pleasant temperatures and little humidity, perfect for golf, and many of the ski and golf resorts are ranked among the top destinations in the country. Here are some of the best.
Michigan has several resorts in the northern Lower Peninsula on that list. Boyne Mountain, Boyne Highlands and Boyne's Bay Harbor lead the list with 11 top ranked courses, among them the Robert Trent Jones, Sr. Heather and the Arthur Hills courses at the Highlands and Links/Quarry at Bay Harbor.
Others in Michigan receiving accolades in many of the golf magazine’s include: Shanty Creek with four courses, among them Arnold Palmer’s Legend and Tom Weiskopf’s Cedar Creek; Treetops with its five courses, including Robert Trent Jones, Sr.; Masterpiece, Tom Fazio’s Premier; and Rick Smith's Threetops, America’s top par-3 course; Crystal Mountain, with two distinctly different golf courses, offers a mountain and valley course. Grand Traverse Resort & Spa has three courses including Jack Nicklaus’ Bear and Gary Player’s Wolverine.
Wisconsin’s Grand Geneva Resort & Spa, considered one of the top golf resorts in the country, offers two championship courses, the Nicklaus/Pete Dye Highlands and The Brute at over 7,000 yards. Devil’s Head, in the scenic Baraboo Bluffs, offers two courses that are consistently ranked among the top 25 in the Badger State.
Minnesota’s Giants Ridge, considered one of the Gopher State’s top golf destinations, offers the distinctly different Quarry and Legend, which are both ranked among the top 25 courses in the state and among the top 100 resort courses in the country.
Lutsen Mountains has Superior National Golf Course located next door, which offers you the only true mountain golf in the Heartland. It’s 27-holes located along the slopes of the Sawtooth Mountain range and ranked the top course in the state by Golf Digest.
All offer golf packages, comfortable temperatures and low humidity. It may be the best drive you make this summer.
