Smugglers’ Women’s Clinics Offer Strong Female Role Models

Suggs women clinicsSmuggler’s Notch has expanded its women's programs for all levels of skiers and riders. A new three-day getaway will be held twice this season In addition to increasing the one-day program to three times each week.

“Our women's programs are led by expert female coaches focused on offering fun and confidence-boosting sessions with plenty of skiing or riding tips, tricks and terrain tactics that address the differences of how women move on snow,” Smugglers’ Karen Boushie told SnoCountry.com. “Small groups are designed to be playful and supportive and take full advantage of Smugglers' three mountains of terrain, whether the goal is building basic skills or fine tuning advanced techniques.”

Inclusions such as meals and an après-ski cocktail give participants an opportunity to continue to build their camaraderie outside of the lesson time and creates a very full and very fun day.

One-day programs are offered on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday throughout the season. Locals can drop their kids off for weekly lessons and then join in the six- or eight-week programs.

All programs have the same principal: increasing confidence and reaching personal goals,” Julie, Silverman, Women’s Program Supervisor told us. After 17 years of ski instructing, Silverman makes her lessons fun and perhaps a little silly. “I have not felt this much camaraderie since I was on a high school soccer team. Everyone supports each other.”

Silverman credits the success of the women-only programs to their ability to help each woman reach attainable goals. “ As instructors we are strong female role models, showing that girls can do it, and do it well.” Silverman says they mitigate any fears participants might have and make them stronger skiers, whether it's breaking through an intermediate rut or tackling trees, bumps and steeps on an expert level.

The three-day clinic includes a welcome cocktail party; group meals, lift tickets, yoga and group fitness with a trainer, gifts and prizes, and equipment demos. Women's getaway participants receive a discount on their Club Smugglers' vacation package or lodging-only package and a 50 percent discount on kids' ski school and nursery programs for women who travel with their families.

The dates for the 2016 clinic are Jan. 31-Feb. 3 and March 6-9.
