Aston Alps snowboardingA series of beginner and advance lessons take place at Welch Village, and snowboard camps are scheduled at Buck Hill, Afton Alps and Wild Mountain throughout the month of February. It’s a great chance for Twin City skiers and snowboarders to sharpen their skills.

Welch is offering a series of lessons this month that cater to both beginners and those who know how to ski and would like to upgrade their skills. It’s the perfect tune-up if you’re considering heading out West for some spring skiing.

First Run Beginner Lessons, a two-hour lesson that focuses on introducing parallel ski movements to beginners, is set for Feb. 16 with lessons scheduled at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. The cost is $69 and includes 

Welch Villagelesson, all day lift ticket and rental equipment. 

Mountain 3 Clinics, a two hour lesson for those that already know how to ski and would like to improve their skills and parallel turns is Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m. and on Fridays at 6 p.m. The cost is $79 for lesson, lift ticket and rental. If you only need lesson and lift tickets it’s $69. A three week beginner session that features the PMTS direct parallel teaching system is on Saturdays Feb. 7, 14 and 21 and Sundays Feb 8, 15 and 22. The cost is $179 for lessons, lift and rentals or $149 for just lessons and lift. 

An advanced reservation and pre-payment is required for the PMTS sessions. An advanced four-day version, for those who ski blue and black runs, is scheduled Feb. 17-20. Welch Villages is the only PMTS licensed ski school in the country.

Buck is hosting two snowboard camps in February. First up, Feb. 7-8, is Windells Camp, which puts on weekend camps across the country. This is the third year in a row for the camp at Buck Hills. Professional coaches will teach new tricks for ages 9-18 including a video review. The cost is $349 for the weekend including lift tickets, coaching, a private park setup, lunch, a closing pizza party, and free gear from sponsors.

Snowboard Thrasher Camps, catering to intermediate to advanced snowboarders for all age groups, will be held at Wild Mountain, Feb. 7-8 and March 14-15; Buck Hill Feb. 21-22; and Afton Alps Feb 28-March 1. The cost is $99 per camp, which concentrate on correcting bad habits and teaching new skills. 

Each camp focuses on individual style and personalized goals, trick landing consistency, advanced spin techniques, and rail/box combinations. Lunch is included as well as individual video briefings. Lift tickets are extra.
