Romancing The Midwest Slopes

Love is on the slopes. Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, but why not consider the whole month of February for a romantic getaway with a little skiing and riding mixed in. Here are some of the best choices around the Great Lakes.

If you’re a Chicagoland skier or snowboarder still looking for that certain someone, Wilmot Mountain is offering “chairlift speed dating” for those 21+ on Sunday, Feb. 10. It’s being coordinated with a matchmaking service, and the cost is $10 for pass holders and $58 for non-pass holders, which includes a lift ticket and a drink ticket. You can ride the lift multiple times.

Twin City residents have Lutsen Resort along Lake Superior’s North Shore and just across the road from Lutsen Mountains. Minnesota Monthly Magazine calls it “most romantic resort in the state.” They offer a Romance Package that includes two nights lodging, breakfast daily, one dinner and champagne in your room, for $525 with taxes included. Guests are offered round trip free shuttle service to the ski hill, just minutes away. Buy your lift tickets online, not included in the package, and save on two-day tickets.

The Homestead Resort nestled in Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore and one of the top romantic resorts along the Great Lakes offers a night’s lodging, hot breakfast in the morning morning and dinner at Nonna’s, their signature restaurant, one evening through their Winter Stay and Dine package. It also includes a couple of passes for the National Lakeshore. Rates start from $89 per person, per night, and all-day lift tickets can be added for around $50. It’s only open weekends for skiing and riding.

Crystal Mountain celebrates Valentine’s Day with a two-for-one lift and rental package that day. You can also treat your Valentine with specials on gift cards and services at the Crystal Spa. You could add lodging for around $130 and enjoy a special dinner at Thistle Pub and Grille.

Treetops is currently offering a romantic package Lucky You Two that includes a night’s stay and a $200 spa services voucher and in-room amenities starting from $409 per couple. Lift tickets can be added for around $25 per person.
