The anticipation of a new ski and snowboard season in the Northwest is ramping up – and the 2016-2017 Portland SkiFever & Snowboard Show fits squarely in the middle of the excitement.

For 35 years, retailers and resorts from the Pacific Northwest and Inland Empire have gathered in the Oregon city to pitch their wares, entice show-goers with deep discounts on gear and tickets, and generally amp things up for the upcoming ski and snowboard season.

New this year will be tastings for beer, wine and hard liquors throughout the three days of the show. Portland’s own Deschutes Brewery will headline the beer-tasting, while local distributors will lay out wine from Oregon vineyards and liquor for all to sample.

Back again will be a mammoth ski swap, known to attract more than 20,000 potential customers. Shops from all over the Northwest will put pre-owned and closeout skis, ‘boards, boots and accessories, while individuals can bring in their own equipment for sale on Thursday – and get 80 percent of the price at the conclusion of the show.

Attractions abound from the typical – a rail jam, K2 freeride show and ski movie theater – to the oddball, like the hot dog lounge, scuba sessions in a heated pool and air rifle shooting range.

The show runs Nov. 4-6 at the Portland Expo Center in the uptown area near the banks of the Columbia River. Hours are 1 to 10 p.m. on Friday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the last day.

Admission is $12 for adults ($18 for two days), $3 for kids 6-12, and free for the youngest ones. A $3 discount is available online off the show website.
