Closing Events, Price Breaks On Tap In East: 'Happy April'
“Happy April,” exclaimed Gore Mountain’s Emily Stanton to SnoCountry.com. “We are open daily through Sunday (April 6). We’re asking people to visit our website or check ahead regarding the schedule for next week. We’ll have events throughout April.”
Among those are live music on the sundeck on April 6; pond skimming Sunday April 12 featuring the biggest pond in Gore Mountain history; and an Easter Sunday Service April 20 at the summit of Bear Mountain for skiers, boarders and foot passengers. An Easter Brunch buffet will be served in the base lodge.
Gore Mountain’s Adirondack brethren, namely Whiteface Mountain and Belleayre Mountain, all three managed by the New York Olympic Regional Development Authority, will function several weeks into April, though Whiteface General Manager Aaron Kellett has commented publicly that May is within reach.
Some 18 New York facilities will churn lifts April 5-6.
Ski Butternut in Mass. began the month with all 22 trails open and six lifts running. Closing day is April 6.
When he came off the hill Tuesday (April 1) afternoon, spokesman Matt Sawyer returned a SnoCountry.com call to say, “Conditions today are really good. It was firm to start, but then it softened up. It couldn’t be better.”
Ski Butternut’s April pricing is very aggressive with a $25 adult lift ticket every day of the week. Juniors pay $20 daily and kids just $15. It’s their traditional spring ticket structure that begins in late March.
“When the prices drop, that’s when we see skis that haven’t seen snow in 10 years,” quipped Sawyer. There will be an Easter Egg contest April 6, with prizes hidden on every trail. Note to Jimmy Buffet fans: Ski Butternut will have the Parrot Head Festival, also April 6.
It’s mostly business as usual In Vermont with spring skiing and boarding throughout the state. The lone closures are Suicide Six and Cochran’s Ski Area, while Sugarbush and Jay Peak will welcome guests into May. Killington will keep going as long as possible.
