Plenty Of Midwest Spring Break Opportunities

Looking for some opportunities to ski over spring break? You don’t have to head out of the Heartland to find plenty of opportunity across the upper Midwest. Save on travel time, expense and enjoy some prime late season slope conditions.


Lutsen Mountains along Lake Superior’s north shore is way above its normal average snow depth and plans on staying open daily into mid-April. With its nearly 1,000-foot vertical drop and 95 runs scattered over four mountains, it offers plenty of choices to keep you exploring for days. It lives up to its namesake “Mountains of the Midwest.”

They are offering a couple of family packages that are good through the end of March. Sunday through Thursday nights the family spring break package offers five nights lodging and lift tickets from $245 per person and kids get free rentals. Family festival weekend, March 29-31, offers two nights lodging and lift tickets from $149 per person. It includes free ski rental for the entire family, family entertainment, a pizza party and fireworks over the mountain.

Granite Peak, located at Rib Mountain State Park overlooking Wausau, is the second highest peak in the Badger State, offering a 700-foot vertical, 75 runs and three high-speed lifts. Again, lots of runs and choices to keep you busy for two or three days. Their family festival weekend takes place April 12-14 and prices start from $658 for a family of four. It includes two nights lodging, lift tickets and free rental for the family. Family activities will be taking place and fireworks on Saturday night over the slopes. They are fully open.

Ski Brule, located in Michigan’s UP, is fully open with a record amount of snow and plans to stay open well into April, possibly May. They are offering a spring break special March 25-31: $25 off lift and lodging packages per person, per night. It requires at least a two-night stay. They are also offering a spring break college special through March 24. It includes a two lift, lodging and meals package from $206 per person midweek and $233 per person on weekends.

In Michigan’s Lower Peninsula Boyne Highlands is offering ski and stay packages starting from $95 midweek and $145 over weekends through March. The packages are per person, per night and include lift and lodging tickets and a buffet breakfast. Kids five and under ski and sleep free and those up to 15 are eligible for a deep discount. A three-night stay is required for the package price.

Crystal Mountain is offering a spring break package, March 24-April 6, with room rates starting from $129, which includes free skiing and riding for the whole family, ice skating, snowshoeing and fat tire snow biking. Daily activities will be taking place. A two-night minimum stay is required. They are fully open with 56 trails.
