Plans Announced For New Resort Adjacent To Deer Valley

Skiers and snowboarders who live in or visit Utah each winter may soon have another choice in destinations: Mayflower Mountain Resort.

Developers recently unveiled trail maps and base area renderings for the resort that overlooks Jordanelle Reservoir and backs up to Deer Valley Resort near Park City. Skiing and riding terrain will cover 900 acres, mostly north-facing to hold snow longer, and some seven lifts are in the works.

New York-based developers already have crews on the site, clearing the terrain and building access roads. Operations are expected to begin in 2121.

Mayflower Mountain would be the 16th ski and snowboard resort in Utah – day-trip Cherry Peak outside Logan was the last – and the first major destination resort in the Beehive State in nearly 40 years.

Located on private land, the project got a boost from its location within a military-discount area designated by the Utah Military-Industrial Development Agency. Mayflower management will offer deals for the military in exchange for help bringing the project to fruition.

Plans call for two entrances to the resort just off Exit 8 of I-40. The main lifts will carry skiers and riders to the top of Deer Crest, overlooking Deer Valley to the west. No arrangement with Deer Valley has been announced yet.

Base projects include a five-star hotel, stacked condos and condo-hotels, and a convention center. In addition, developers say they will, over time, put in Nordic tracks, alpine coaster, sledding hills, ice rink, off-road “pump track” for bikes, a mini-golf course, ziplines and concert facility.
