The 12th annual Pats Peak Mountain Bike Festival weekend in Henniker, N.H., is June 8-9. Choose from 24-, 12- or 6-hour, X-Country Challenge and Downhill Thrill races.
The 24-, 12- or 6-hour competitors can ride solo or in 2-, 4- or 5-person teams. It begins at 12 noon Sat., June 8. This is an endurance competition held on a circuit course of wooded trails, unpaved roads, along with a variety of obstacles that tests strength and technical ability. You can pre-ride the course for free when it opens on a soon-to-be-announced date.
The X-Country Challenge June 9, for beginners to pros, is part of the Northeast Root 66 XC Race Series that competes at different New England venues (see schedule). Racers must complete a required number of laps in the quickest time to win.
The Downhill race is part of the Eastern States Cup USA Cycling Regional Championship Downhill Mountain Bike Race Series (schedule). The series includes nine venues with 11 series races plus state and series finals. The competition starts at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, July 9. Paid entrants only can pre-ride the course June 8.
“We are excited to host this Mountain Bike Festival for the 12th year in a row. Every year it gets bigger and better. The event started with just the endurance races and since then we’ve added a X-Country and Downhill component to the weekend,” says Festival Event Coordinator Jim Wall.
Riders compete for over $4,000 in cash and prizes. Click for online registration.
There also are kids’ races Saturday and Sunday; helmets are mandatory for those under 12 years. Enjoy live music Saturday from 5-10 p.m.
