One Final Drive, One Last Putt: Fall Golf In The High Country

Just like for skiers and ‘boarders, golfers want to squeeze in that last day of the season. Even as most U.S. resorts are turning on their snow guns and warming up the snowcats, many still keep the golf course open for those late-season die-hards.

SnoCountry.com took a look around the country and found a selection of golf links in the mountains that keep you swingin’ one more time – and let you check out the mountain as you do.

At the base of Diamond Peak with north Lake Tahoe in view, Incline Village boasts two Robert Trent Jones Jr. courses:  A par-72 championship-level layout and a par-58 “mountain course” -- the highest course in the state.” Play both for $199, or $99 after 3 p.m.

In Maine, three top courses have linked a night at Sugarloaf with rounds there, Belgrade Lakes and Sunday River. Weekday package as low at $220 with discounted rate for second night at Sunday River.

Go high end with a night at the mid-mountain Stein Erickson Lodge at Deer Valley, get pampered and eat gourmet meals, and then tee it up at the Promontory Pete Dye Club. Packages start at $405.

Stay at the renovated Sun Valley Lodge or Inn, and get free round of golf at a trio of courses near the Idaho resort. Packages begin at $219 a night, with discounts for additional nights.

Numerous courses await the final swings of the season at Boyne. Stay at Boyne Mountain, Boyne Highlands or Cottages at Bay Harbor, and golf for free. Overnight packages begin at $99.
