Olympians, X Games Champions Launch Ski Nation; Seek Crowdfunding
Ski Nation is a mobile application and independent skier network that will debut in the 2013-14 season in time for the Winter Olympics in Russia. Organizers are seeking $300,000 for final development of the app through crowdfunding.
“Ski Nation is for all skiers regardless of age, experience, skill or their home mountain,” says Olympic Gold Medalist, 4x World Champion and co-founder Ted Ligety. Former U.S. Ski Team member Jack Turner and his business partner, Victoria Ossola, assembled the coalition of athletes.
The mobile app will be free and will work universally at major ski resorts, local ski hills and Nordic centers. The app creates a lifetime record of places users have skied. It permits industry companies to send information, offers, and discounts to users with their pre-approved permission.
Organizers say the platform is not controlled by one resort, manufacturer, media company or marketing agency. That, they say, permits a free flow of information between skiers and all segments of industry. It also allows small operators to the opportunity to participate in the mobile app arena.
The Ski Nation effort is an “all or nothing” campaign. Contributors will only be charged when the $300,000 goal has been reached. Contribution pledges are accepted here.
Founding athletes include Alana Nichols, Billy Demong, Bode Miller, Franz Weber, Hannah Kearney, Kikkan Randall, Maddie Bowman. Sammy Carlson, Sarah Hendrickson, Simon Dumont, Tanner Hall, Ted Ligety, Tom Wallisch, Wendy Fisher, Victoria Ossola, and Jack Turner.
