Northern Michigan Golf Season Heats Up With Early Season Specials

The golf season in northern Michigan is here. Long known as "America’s Summer Golf Capital," several of the region's resorts rank among the top 100 golf resorts in the country. All offer early season golf packages.

Boyne with 11 golf courses scattered among Boyne Mountain, Boyne Highlands, and Bay Harbor, which golf writers have hailed as the “Pebble Beach of the Midwest,” is offering May golf packages that start from $87 per person, per night, based on double occupancy. The packages include overnight accommodations and golf on eight of the premier courses, including the Arthur Hills course and Robert Trent Jones Heather course at Boyne Highlands.

Treetops, with its five award winning courses including Robert Trent Jones Signature course, Tom Fazio’s only Michigan course, and three Rick Smith courses, including one of the top Par Three courses in the country, Threetops, is also offering attractive early season packages. An unlimited golf package, available April 26 through May 30, with some restrictions, starts from $119 per person, per night, based on double occupancy. It includes a night’s lodging, a breakfast, and unlimited golf from arrival to departure. There is a $10 surcharge to play the Signature.

Shanty Creek Resort offers four courses including Arnold Palmer’s Legend and Tom Weiskopf’s Cedar River course. Early season stay and play golf packages start from $89 per person, per night, based on double occupancy for the resort’s Summit or Schuss Mountain golf courses, and from $109 per night for the premier courses. Packages include an overnight stay and a round of golf on the course of your choice. The Classic Unlimited package, which includes one day of unlimited golf starts from $114 per night. The first round has to be on the Summit or Schuss course. 

Crystal Mountain offers an 18-hole golf package that starts from $79 per person, per night, based on double occupancy, which includes an overnight and round of golf on the Mountain Ridge or Betsie Valley course. Stay three nights and you can add a round from a choice of four other area off-property courses. An additional cart fee is required. Unlimited golf packages, which require a minimum two-night stay, start from $99 per person, per night. These packages are available on select dates through June 17.

The Grand Traverse Resort with its three championship golf courses, including a Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player course, offers weekend packages starting from $150 per person. It includes an overnight stay, one round of golf, a breakfast buffet and replay rates for additional rounds. The offer is good through June 21 with some blackout dates. Two night stays including breakfast two days and two rounds of golf start from $290 per person.

The Homestead, overlooking Lake Michigan and the Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore, offers a one night golf getaway, which includes a round on the resort’s par three course, Mountain Flowers, and 18-holes on Arnold Palmer’s Manitou Passage. It starts from $111 per person, per night, based on double occupancy, and is available all season long. Other packages starting from $125 per person for two night’s lodging, include a round of golf at each course, breakfast each morning and one dinner at the resort’s award-winning restaurant Nonna’s; also available all season long.
