Northeast Openings Coming Fast And Furious

Thanks to a mix of natural and man-made snow, Sunday opens Nov. 23. (Sunday River)

A mild fall kept many Northeast skiers and riders fearing we might face another winter like last year, but the temps have dropped, snow has arrived and opening days are happening across the region.

A long-lasting Sunday-Monday storm dropped over a foot on areas like Jay Peak and Whiteface, and we’ll be checking in with the SnoCountry SnoCast to see how much we might get from a Thanksgiving storm.

Maine. Sunday River opens Nov. 23 with top-to-bottom skiing on Barker and Aurora, with access to Aurora from the Chondola. Sugarloaf kicks off the season Thanksgiving Day. The SuperQuad will spin to access Tote Road, which is currently receiving all their snowmakers' attention in the form of a 125+ snowgun barrage. 

New Hampshire. Loon has been making snow nonstop since Sunday evening and plans to open on the upper half of the mountain Nov. 23, with lift service via the Gondola and East Basin Double. Bretton Woods re-opens Nov. 22, and Cranmore, Mount Sunapee, Cannon and Waterville all drop ropes for a Friday, Nov. 25 opening.

Mount Snow

Vermont. The Green Mountain state has turned white, and Stowe, Okemo and Mount Snow all open Nov. 23 with top-to-bottom skiing and riding. Sugarbush opens Nov. 23, anticipating Heaven's Gate lift-served skiing and riding on Upper Jester, Downspout, and Upper Organgrinder, with downloading on Super Bravo.

Bromley, Burke, Jay Peak, Mad River Glen, Smuggs and Stratton all open Nov. 25.

New York. Gore, Whiteface and Hunter all plan to start turning the lifts Nov. 25. Titus opens Nov. 26, almost three weeks ahead of their planned opening date. Holiday Valley opens Nov. 26 for their 60th season.
