The first Terrain Based Learning Center in New Hampshire, complete with rollers, sluice, dish, spine, and mini-park, is being installed at Gunstock Mountain Resort near Gilford. Other improvements add up to a $1 million investment for this winter.
The terrain park features are designed “to help the skier or rider ‘feel’ the mountain and use their natural movement to change the direction of the ski or snowboard,” says Gunstock’s Bill Quigley. “As they progress from the surface lift to the complex designed for beginners, the Terrain Based Learning Center will reduce the learning curve and build their confidence.”
Other pieces of the winter investment include additional lighting, a new snow cat, additional snowmaking, and trail improvements.
Several new program features also have been added. Those who register for the 3-day Mountain Magic program get their first day free. A variety of discounts are offered to those who complete the program, including upgrading to season passes. The resort’s outreach program for school kids will continue.
