New Chair To Upper Trails Being Installed At Alyeska
Work already has begun on the installation of Alyeska Resort’s new Doppelmayr high-speed detachable quad. It is expected to be completed by Oct. at a cost of $6 million.
The quad replaces the current Chair 6, installed in 1988, which is the primary lift to the mountain’s upper mountain trails. Popular upper trails include Christmas Chute, Trapline, Mighty Mite, and High Traverse.
“With this new lift, Alyeska will have invested over $14 million in ski area improvements over the past two years,” says General Manager Di Hibner.
Summer hikers and bikers could encounter some intermittent closures due to the construction. Check with the resort’s hotline (907-754-7669) or the site’s Summer Trail’s Report for closures and construction updates.
The new chair will utilize existing alignment; groundwork includes terrain re-grading, lift terminals, electrical and utility work, and a new weather station at the top.
