Need For Speed? Join Adult Alpine Racing Leagues At Northeast Resorts
Find yourself in the need for speed this winter? Adult race leagues can be found at resorts across the Northeast, and you don’t have to wear a race suit, unless you want to. In addition to some fun competition and potential bragging rights at your local mountain, race leagues offer camaraderie as well as affordable skiing, prizes, and some great après-ski parties.
“Half the fun is going to the Black Diamond Restaurant after the race, Wachusett’s Tom Meyers told SnoCountry.com. “With 120 teams spread out over four nights, there’s a wide variety of racing experience. We have locals who’ve been racing for 25 years, and then we’ve got the young ex-college racers.”
Wachusett hosts the largest adult racing program in the country according to Meyers, Last year their racers were nationally ranked second in NASTAR starts. Nightly prizes and end of season championships keep racers coming back year after year.
The origin of Mountain Meisters at Cranmore dates back to the early seventies when Cranmore looked at the Meister program as an opportunity to showcase the mountain and let Mount Washington Valley residents experience the great conditions at a very affordable price. Meisters would head back to work and share their experiences and talk about those conditions and the upcoming events at the in-town mountain with visitors and co-workers.
Today the Meister program hosts 35 plus 15 man teams with approximately 500 weekly racers. Each team and individual accumulates place points over the ten-week race series looking to win and earn bragging rights for the year.
2014-15 marks the 26th season of Adult/Corporate Racing at Pats Peak. Individuals or those who don't have a complete team can easily be placed on other teams. The $700 per team price includes weekly races, a lift ticket from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. on race nights, prizes and après-ski party each race night.
The Bromley Mountain Innkeepers Race Series requirements include a competitive streak and desire to get on the mountain every Wednesday, January through end of season in April. Teams of four race for under $125 per person for eight race days, and get an end-of-season party with commemorative T-shirt and awards. Racers can take advantage of the Innkeepers Mug Club and Burger & Beer specials at the Wild Boar Tavern in the historic base lodge..
The Sunday River Locals Challenge occurs every Wednesday, starting Jan. 7 from 9 a.m.to noon.. It costs $35 per racer for teams of five to seven. A Locals Challenge après party follows the racing at a different bar or restaurant each week.
