Winter Park Gondola (winterparkresort.com)

Love is in the air at many Western ski resorts as guests celebrate Valentine’s Day. Here’s what some resorts are offering.

Colorado’s Crested Butte spreads the celebration out over a week of activities. A Love Potions Workshop kisses it off Feb. 12 at Sanctuary Studio in Gunnison by teaching you how to make a botanical love potion – you even get to bring samples home.

Snowshoe or cross country ski for the Valentine’s Day Yurt Dinner Feb. 14 or the full Moon Yurt Dinner Feb. 15. The five-course gourmet dinner begins at 6:30 p.m. for $70 per adult and includes a trail pass and equipment rental (but not gratuity or alcohol). Click here for reservations or call 970-349-1707.

The Three Rivers Resort in Almont (about 18 miles from Crested Butte) is offering a Valentine’s Sweet Deal Feb. 14-16. Stay two nights in a modular-style cabin with a shared hot tub or in a premium cabin with a private hot tub and fireplace, and receive a $50 gift certificate to Garlic Mike’s Italian restaurant. Cabins start at $140 per night.

Winter Park’s Lodge at Sunspot delivers Valentine’s Day with a dining experience at 10,700 feet above sea level. The gondola takes you to your five-course dinner, a glass of champagne with dessert and a long-stem rose for the ladies for $79.95 per person. Reservations are required; call 970-726-1446.

The famous Mountaintop Matrimonial celebration continues at Loveland Ski Resort in Colorado with their “marry me and ski for free” day.

The 23rd annual Loveland event is for those getting married or renewing their vows, at noon outside the Ptarmagin Roost Cabin in a “mass wedding.” The ceremony lasts about 30 minutes and is conducted by a registered minister with the Universal Life Church. It’s followed by a reception at the base area with complimentary wedding cake, raffle tickets, and beer coupons for pre-registered  couples. All couples getting married must have a valid Colorado Marriage License to bring to the ceremony.

Snowbird Resort in Utah hopes the commitment-free, speed-dating on their singles line Peruvian Express chairlift for skiers and snowboarders will help you meet that someone special. Or maybe your someone special can be found at the après ski singles party in the Cliff Lodge. Best of all, lift tickets are $40 for everyone.

Squaw Valley in Lake Tahoe invites you to take their Aerial Tram up to the Terrace Restaurant for a 4-course meal that includes portabella fries, kale salad, tomato bisque soup, salmon or petit filet mignon, dessert, and a complimentary glass of champagne for $80 per adult; a children’s menu will be offered at $35 per child ages 12 and under. Seatings are from 6:20-8 p.m. and can be made by email

Timberline Lodge in Oregon has created a Full Moon Valentine Snowshoe Lodging Package. Package includes a queen hotel room, snowshoes and poles, and a $25 dining credit -think champagne breakfast or dinner in their Cascade Dining Room-  or for use in any of their food outlets. Prices start at $290, double occupancy; available Feb. 13 only.

BC’s Big White Resort in Kelowna has a number of specially designed Valentine’s Day activities for you to enjoy.

Bullet Chair speed dating is Feb. 14 between 2-3 p.m.; the Chocolate Decadence Buffet is in the Moose Lounge from 5-8 p.m. featuring truffles, petit fours, fondue and mousse parfait for $10 per person; or the champagne breakfast sleigh ride with a 30-minute ride to a woodland cabin where champagne, strawberries and a buffet style breakfast will be served beginning at 10 a.m. for $45 per person.

There’s also a romantic gondola ride complete with champagne, chocolate-covered strawberries, candlelight and romantic music for $18 per couple (free if you have pre-booked dinner at the Kettle Valley Steakhouse); s’mores for two at the Globe Café and Tapas Bar; the 2-for-1 on oysters at the Kettle Valley Steakhouse or their  3-course prix fixe dinner at $65 per person Feb. 14 and 15.

Sunshine Mountain Lodge at Sunshine Village in Banff invites you to take advantage of Stay, Ski, Strawberry and Prosecco Packages that start at $179 per person. Enjoy dinner at the 7,000-foot-high Eagle’s Nest Restaurant with white chocolate Prosecco soup and buttered lobster. Wake up early the next morning and hit the slopes ahead of others.
