With the winter-like cold air that's settled in over the Great Lakes, three more Midwest ski areas plan to open later this week with a couple more scheduled to open the following weekend.

This Friday Michigan's Ski Brule and Trollhaugen in Wisconsin will open for the season. Minnesota's Hyland Hills, located near Minneapolis, will open on Saturday. They will join Wild Mountain, also located in the Gopher State, which opened for the season last weekend. A couple more Lutsen Mountains in Minnesota and Granite Peak in Wisconsin plan on opening the following weekend, November 16-17.

Three more Heartland ski resorts have announced planned openings for Thanksgiving weekend; Crystal Mountain and Caberfae Peaks in Michigan's northern Lower Peninsula, and Christie Mountain in northern Wisconsin.

Ski Brule is offering free lift tickets for opening day Friday. Big Bear chairlift and Bambi rope tow will be servicing Log Jam and Bunny and Bambi Trails 10:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Rails and boxes will be available as well. More terrain may open for the weekend depending on snowmaking. Brule is offering a Thanksgiving lodging special, half-price Wednesday night when you spend four nights over the holidays.

Trollhaugen, located along the Minnesota border, will be open Thursday and Friday, 3-9 p.m., and the weekend 10 a.m-5 p.m. They currently have open two runs serviced by a chairlift and surface tow, and features have been set on Tomtebakken. They will be offering a Thanksgiving Race Camp November 29 through December 1.

Lodging packages include two nights lodging and two-day lift tickets starting from $96 per person opening weekend. Over Thanksgiving, they are offering two-nights lodging and two-day lift from $125 per person, valid from November 27 through December 19.

Granite Peak plans on opening November 16 for the season. Ski packages, including two-day lift tickets and free rental for a family of four, are available over Thanksgiving.

Crystal Mountain's planned opening is November 27, weather permitting. They are offering 25-percent off room rates through December 19. The first three Sundays in December are 5 for $50 when five people ski for that price.

Hyland Hills will open Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Caberfae and Christie have planned openings on November 29. With the forecast for even colder air spilling across the Midwest, next week continue checking the SnoCounty snow reports for the latest openings.
