More Freshies! Powder Mountain Partners With Backcountry Giant
At Powder Mountain, the options for putting your tracks on unfettered powder snow just got larger – some 70,000 acres larger.
The northern Utah resort, known for bringing backcountry powder inside the ropes, will join up with Whisper Ridge Backcountry Resorts to give its skiers and riders even more runs in untouched light powder than ever before.
Opened in 2016, Whisper Ridge is one of the largest heli- and ‘cat-skiing operation in the world. It operates out of Eden, just over the ridge from Ogden, on some 70,000 acres of privately owned terrain with eight snowcats and two helicopters with overnight accommodation to 11 “luxury” mountaintop yurts.
A portion of Whisper Ridge’s property abuts Powder Mountain, just up the hill from Eden. Announcement of the partnership includes plans for a Whisper Ridge base of operations to be built at Powder Mountain.
"This partnership creates a truly unique opportunity for limitless lift serviced, side-country and backcountry experiences for skiers and riders seeking an alternative to the overcrowded and overhyped resorts that are becoming all too common these days," says Powder Mountains’ Mark Schroetel.
Pushing deep in the powder-magnet Wasatch Mountains above Salt Lake City has long been a popular alternative to skiing and ‘boarding at in-bounds mountain resorts. The Wasatch are among the most popular mountain ranges for backcountry hikers, as well as helicopter and snowcat tours originating at the resorts.
In other Utah powder news, Snowbird owner Powdr Corp. has linked up with longtime heli-ski operation Powderbird to make it easier for powderhounds to not only stay and track up Snowbird, but also get a ride deep into the gullies and bowls of Wasatch and Uinta ranges.
